Sozo Scholarships
At Sozo Sports, we offer two scholarship opportunities designed to make sure every athlete has the chance to play. Our Adopt-An-Athlete scholarship helps cover costs like registration, uniforms, and equipment, while our Student-Athlete Work Scholarship provides additional support through a hands-on, give-back approach. These opportunities are available to families who are committed to their athlete’s growth and refuse to let financial circumstances stand in the way of opportunity—because we believe every kid deserves the chance to step on the field and chase something bigger.

"We are removing financial barriers and getting more kids active because we believe every kid deserves the chance to play!"
The Every Kid Sports Pass is not a Sozo Sports scholarship, but qualifying families can use it to help cover the cost of Sozo recreational soccer. This national nonprofit program provides financial assistance toward youth sports registration for eligible families. Families apply directly through Every Kid Sports, and all eligibility, approval, and funding decisions are handled by their organization—not Sozo.
Sozo Work Scholarship
The Sozo Sports of Central Washington Student Athlete Work Scholarship was created to specifically assist individuals and families with demonstrated economic need to pursue their passion for sports. These scholarships are funded purely by donations and fundraising events.
Our annual Crab Feed gives our donors the chance to solely focus on the "Adopt an Athlete" scholarship and assist them with their sports registration fees, uniforms, helmets, etc.
Sozo Work Scholarship faq
What is the Sozo Sports Work Scholarship?
Sozo Sports is pleased to offer assistance with club dues for premier programs. This scholarship is funded by community donations through the "Adopt An Athlete" fundraiser. If awarded, scholarship funds reduce club dues up to a maximum of $500.
This is a work scholarship, meaning athletes and/or family members must complete required volunteer hours to receive the full benefit.
Who can apply for the scholarship?
Any player who is registered for a club team at Sozo for the 2026/27 season may apply. Registration (including payment of the registration fee) must be completed before submitting the scholarship application.
When can I apply?
You may apply once your player has been invited to a team and registered. Registration is required for the application to be considered complete.
How do I apply? Do I have to apply online?
Yes. All applications must be submitted through PlayMetrics.
Paper applications are not accepted.
Using one online system helps ensure applications are complete, organized, and reviewed efficiently. It also allows scholarship reviewers who are outside of regular office staff to process applications consistently and on time.
Incomplete or incorrectly submitted applications will not be reviewed.
When is the application deadline?
All scholarship applications are due June 1st, 2026.
Only applications submitted through PlayMetrics by the deadline will be considered.
If you do not register before June 1st, your application will be considered late.
What do I need to complete my application?
To be considered, you must:
- Fill out the entire application form online
- Register your player for the 2026/27 season (registration fee must be paid)
- Upload the most recent 1040 tax forms for all guardians involved in the player’s life (parents, step-parents, etc.) This must include a 1040 with the player listed as a dependent.
- Upload the player’s most recent grade report (must show the player's name)
Incomplete applications will NOT be considered.
Are previous balances considered?
Yes. All previous season balances must be paid in full before your application will be reviewed. This includes $20 / incomplete hour for the previous season.
When will I find out if I have received a scholarship?
All complete and on-time applications will receive a response by July 10th.

What is required if I receive the scholarship?
This is a work scholarship. If awarded, athletes and/or family members must complete:
25 volunteer/work hours (for the full $500 scholarship) at Sozo events and designated opportunities.
When can I complete my required hours?
Hours can be completed during designated Sozo events and scheduled volunteer opportunities throughout the season.
A list of available opportunities will be provided after acceptance.
What happens if I don't complete the required hours?
Any uncompleted hours will be charged at $20 per hour
Half of required hours must be completed by December 31, 2026
All hours must be completed by the end of the season
What happens if my player quits the program?
If a player leaves the program:
- Remaining required hours must still be completed OR paid at $20 per hour
- Parents/guardians are responsible for any remaining financial balance
What are other requirements that scholarship players must meet?
Scholarship recipients must:
- Maintain at least a “C” GPA
- Attend at least 95% of practices and games
- Submit grade reports when requested (by October 31, 2026 and February 28th, 2027)
Failure to meet academic requirements may result in ineligibility for games, additional “grade watch” requirements, or a revoked scholarship.
Good academic standing is required because it ensures players are meeting their school responsibilities while participating in the program. It reflects commitment, discipline, and eligibility to fully participate in team activities.
Can I submit a paper application?
No. Applications are only accepted through PlayMetrics.
What happens if I submit an incomplete application?
If you fail to answer any of the questions on the Sozo Work Scholarship application, your application will be considered incomplete and your child will not be considered for a scholarship.
What if I joined Sozo FC after the application deadline?
This is the only exception for applying for a scholarship after the deadline date.
In this case, you may ignore the deadline date and apply.
